Microsoft fined $357 million US

A failure to comply with an anti-competition ruling has landed Microsoft with a €280.5 ($357) million fine. This follows an EU ruling back in 2004 that the software giant had to provide its rivals with information concerning the Windows operating system. EU competition commissioner Neelie Kroes stressed that “Microsoft has still not put an end to its illegal conduct.” She continued "no company is above the law" and said that there had been no alternative other than a hefty fine”. Microsoft said it would appeal, claiming the “unprecedented” amount was unfair.

Windows Is Still More Reliable Than Linux On The Server

MySQL Moves On Clustering

Microsoft Issues Four Security Bulletins For Windows

Microsoft released four significant security bulletins for its Windows operating system on Tuesday as part of its monthly security update, including three that carry a critical severity rating.The three security bulletins flagged with the highest warning level, MS04-011 through MS04-013, address 20 different holes in Windows XP, Windows Server, Windows 2000 and various earlier flavors of Windows. The Windows vulnerabilities could enable hackers to remotely execute malicious code in the Windows Outlook Express e-mail client and other components of Windows, Microsoft said.
