Our Interview with - Phil Iovino, Principal NxTek Solutions |
|
Tell us about your company and
services:
I helped start NxTek Solutions started in late 1999 after 5 years of
web development at a large ISP. We started off doing purely development
but gradually started focusing more and more on hosting, from web, to
dedicated servers, to email and mailing lists, to newsgroup access, to
high-speed Internet access. We consider ourselves an ISP that doesn’t
provide dialup Internet access.
What are your target markets?
In the general hosting business there isn’t really a target market. We
host sites that range from personal sites, to pro-wrestling sites, to
catholic publishing, to hotel resorts in Mexico, to high-performance
engine modification, and lots in between.
What makes you different from other web
hosting companies?
I don’t have much experience with other hosting companies since we do
our own hosting, but our clients have said that they are surprised at how
reliable our services are. Personally, I judge our performance on the
number of support tickets and voice mail messages. If there are none, we
must be doing well. We care about what we do, and our reputation, and do
have a lot of fun at it, which is important for any company.
What would you say is your company's
main strength?
One-on-one attention, proactively, and reliability. We understand that
companies depend on our services for their online image, Ecommerce, Email,
etc, and we take that very seriously. We also own and operate our own
datacenter. That’s not to say that hosting companies that have dedicated
servers or colocated servers are bad. However, we believe that we control
our own business and don’t want to rely on another host or datacenter.
It’s not the cheapest way to do it, but I think it’s the best.
In your opinion, what make great
hosting services?
Caring about your clients. It’s simple, if your clients don’t grow, you
don’t grow. We have many sayings – one of them is, “If clients are happy,
they’ll tell 3 friends. If they’re unhappy, they’ll tell everyone they
knowâ€.
Describe the support services that you
provide:
Being able to actually contact a human being is very important. Whether
it’s by phone, Instant Messager, or Email with a fast response, is what
solid support consists of.
Where do you see the hosting industry
4-5 years from now?
It’s hard to say. The hosting industry hasn’t changed that much in the
last 4-5 years. There are more dedicated servers, game servers, and
collocation than there was 4-5 years ago. I would imagine that there will
be a lot more software technology, such as things similar to XML, .NET,
etc, but I don’t think the hosting industry as a whole will change all
that much.
Thank you
