NaviSite Inc. and Schaff Inc. co-sponsored the survey on Information Technology spending plans for small and mid-sized U. S. businesses with 10 to 500 employees. Schaaf Inc. interviewed IT executives across a range of business verticals to gauge their demand and spending plans for technology products and services in 2004, ranging from managed messaging, disaster recovery and backup, through to Virtual Private Networks, and Web hosting.

The survey also considered SMBs' motivation and buying behavior, along with their preferred channels and attitudes towards new technology, revealing that 50 percent buy online whenever they can, and that 77 percent view a company's Web site as important or extremely important when compared to traditional sales and marketing approaches.
